Interesting letter I had never heard of an eco Marxist before .. I will have an opportunity to discuss some of the concepts you discussed this weekend as I venture out into the wild for a 4 day weekend of foraging !

Have you ever heard the term, "Watermelon"? Green on the outside, red on the inside. This political label used to worn proudly by Green Party members, but now they take it as a bit of an insult. It is an accurate label though.

I was deeply involved in the Green Party in the Ralph Nader days and I met a number of the founding members of the party. These guys described themselves as Watermelons and told me personally how they had all been members of the American Socialist Party (or whatever it was called at the time) when they filed the paperwork for the Green Party.

The Green Party founders were all proudly Marxist and wore the Watermelon label with pride. The Green New Deal and the COP climate change negotiations were the high water marks of their political program and both have failed.

I am a Deep Green environmentalist, I was never a watermelon philosophically. I was never a Marxist and never an atheist, not for one single day. I have always been spiritual. This was my biggest philosophical difference with the rest of the Green Party and ultimately the reason why I left the party, long before it descended into complete irrelevance.

I still love Ralph Nader though, he was the last good liberal to run for President, its been all downhill since.
